A new adventure

On March 2, we set off for a journey halfway around the world to Nepal and Bhutan. Nepal, about half the size of New Mexico, is nestled between China and India, with the Himalayas on the north and tropical plains on the south. Its little neighbor Bhutan measures its economy in "gross national happiness." This is bound to be an exciting adventure.

First, we're flying through DFW and Doha, Qatar to Kathmandu, Nepal. Fortunately we have a 10-hour layover in Doha and can get some sleep. Then we're off to explore temples and sights in Bhaktapur. On March 6, we'll check out Great Pray Festival at Kopan monastery. This is also the Hindu Holi festival, where we're likely to get pelted with paint and water balloons.

After exploring the countryside, we fly to Pokhara to visit falls, lake, cave and river and get a view of Annapurna (the mountain, not the restaurant). Then to the ancient kingdom of Mustang, only recently opened to outsiders. Might even get an audience with the king.

We fly back through Kathmandu on the 20th to Lukla for 6 days of hiking in the Himalayan foothills and a view of Everest. Then back to Kathmandu and on to Bhutan on the 30th for a jeep safari, nature walks, and more cultural exploration.

Back in Nepal on April 11, we'll see a new year's celebration, a chariot tug of war, and where Buddha avoided being eaten by a tiger because, well, the tiger knew it would just be bad karma.

Looking forward to sharing this journey with you! I hope we'll have good bandwidth so I can post regularly. If you need to get in touch, use email and we'll get back whenever there's wifi.
